He loved licking bowls and eating treats of any kind. He was bribable in the best way. He loved walks in the pasture and aggravating his sister. His body failed him in the end. His hind legs were barely functioning. His back pain sometimes caused him to cry out. His eyesight was almost gone. But he was still so happy. I helped him stand when his body refused to lift his backside up. He rested against me until he could gain his balance. I covered him with my body when he started to slip down the stairs. Little Guy Loses a Friend Little Guy ran as fast as he could back to the house. He shoved open the back door. His nails clicked on the tile floor as he hurried to the family room. Gran was sitting in her recliner. Little Guy launched himself into her lap and hid his face against her shoulder. "It's not fair," he cried. "Why did Little Blackie have to die? He wasn't sick at all. I liked Little Blackie!" Gran patted Little Guy's back and tried to comfort him. He sobbed and sobbed. He heard Mama coming into the house. She leaned over and lifted Little Guy into her arms and held him close. "I know it hurts Little Guy," she said softly. "None of us expected Little Blackie to die. We don't know why it happened."
