Little Guy spotted the intruder as it lurked just beyond the front yard. He stared at it intently, unsure whether he wanted to take it on.
He stood, alert and ready. Sunshine rounded the corner and Little Guy let out a bark to let her know something was amiss. She immediately started forward. Big sisters were wonderful, especially when they were as large and powerful as Sunshine. Little Guy reminded himself that his sister could kill a racoon, an armadillo or any other pest with one bite. It made him feel very brave.
Little Guy barked again and started toward the intruder. Sunshine watched intently. Mama heard the commotion and hurried toward them. She always worries about her babies getting hurt. Little Guy knew Sunshine could take care of them both. And Mama too!
The intruder moved again, making an awful rattling noise. Little Guy jumped, then seeing that Sunshine and Mama weren't far behind, he raced forward. He barked ferociously.
Sunshine stopped and waited for Mama to take charge. Little Guy eased forward and sniffed the intruder. Oops. Mama reached down and grabbed the white plastic Walmart bag. She looked down at Little Guy but never said a word as they started back to the house.
Well, Little Guy told himself, it could have been something really dangerous. And he would have been really brave and attacked whatever it was. So there!
