Little Guy is in trouble. It's not his fault. He just wanted to meet the new calf. He gets so excited whenever a new calf is born. It's another playmate and he wants to introduce himself. He promised not to upset the Mama Cow or cause the little calf to run. Just because it had happened before didn't mean it would happen this time.
Granddaddy was a little stressed out. The temperature was really cold and he worried that the new calf would freeze. It was the Mama Cow's first baby. She seemed to be looking after her baby but you never know for sure. Little Guy figured he could add a little insight if Granddaddy would just let him go and see for himself.
Granddaddy said no. Little Guy and Sunshine were banished to the backyard. Little Guy begged and pleaded but everyone ignored him. Mama carried wood into the backyard. He pleaded with her but she sided with Granddaddy. Little Guy could go in the house but he couldn't leave the backyard.
He pouted. He waited. Sunshine went inside. Gran and Granddaddy went inside. Mama would sometimes come to the door and call his name but he ignored her. He knew she was cooking supper and she wouldn't come out until she was done.
He didn't expect her to send Granddaddy out to get him. That was not a good thing. He entered the house wearing his most innocent expression. Mama was not fooled. Her eyes immediately zeroed in on his dirty feet.
"Little Guy! You've been digging, haven't you? You're trying to get out by the shop gate. Don't you deny it! Look at you!"
She looked at Granddaddy. He didn't even pause. He headed out the door. Sure enough. He discovered Little Guy's hole and put concrete blocks up to cover the hole before he came back inside.
"Little Guy, I trusted you," he said. Little Guy hung his head in shame. He just wanted to see the new calf.
The next morning, Granddaddy put an electric fence across the gate area. Now Little Guy's best escape route was history. Being in trouble was a bad, bad thing.
